“In this workshop we will hear from fossil fuel-impacted communities and also highlight the importance of human and Indigenous rights protection, particularly the role of FPIC. Expert speakers will present on the IEA’s 1.5C scenario and its implications for the oil and gas sector; and also present the Global Oil & Gas Exit List as a tool that can be used by the finance sector to align its finance with the Paris Agreement. We will also highlight the problems we have seen in ‘net zero’ commitments and carbon markets. EPFIs are encouraged to share and discuss their commitments and process on how they intend to align their fossil fuel financing specifically with the Paris Agreement and human rights, including any updates since the previous workshops.”

What specifically is Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in practice and how can the lack of effective and meaningful FPIC result in human and Indigenous rights violations, and material and social costs for BlackRock investing in fossil fuel companies.”
